Welcome to a new year and, more importantly, welcome to a new Burgundy vintage! Although a couple of releases have already escaped out of the blocks, the starting pistol for the 2016 vintage was officially sounded at our Burgundy tasting. Whilst we gave ample warning about quantities in 2016, we had no idea how lovely the wines would be. You can access the full range of wines and our tasting notes below or download our brochure.
The crop has been severely reduced by frost and then mildew. Losses range from around a third to the point where you wonder if it is worth sending in the pickers at all…
We are selling the Burgundy 2016 Vintage “En Primeur” – but what does En Primeur actually mean and why does it make sense to buy En Primeur?
Located some 100 miles north of the Côte d’Or, Chablis lies apart from the rest of Burgundy, ideologically as much as geographically.
The Côte de Nuits, with few exceptions, is red wine country. It is, quite simply, home to some of the greatest Pinot Noirs of the world.
The Côte de Beaune is almost twice the size of the Côte de Nuits, with around 6,000 hectares under vine. The appellation covers both white and red wines.
The Côte Chalonnaise is an undulating landscape to the south of the Côte de Beaune, stretching from Bouzeron to Montagny. Five villages stand out: Givry, Montagny, Mercurey, Rully and Bouzeron.
The quality hierarchy in the Mâconnais starts with generic Mâcon, which may be red or white. Mâcon-Villages is a step up, applying to white wines only. The top status, again for white wines only, is conferred on the 26 communes who may use their village name after Mâcon.
The days of Beaujolais Nouveau having mercifully receded like a distant bad dream, we are allowed to, indeed we must, take Beaujolais seriously again. Beaujolais demonstrates an increased mobility in the world of French wine production.

Pure and fresh, this Fleurie shows juicy cherry fruit combined with a delicate but impressive structure also displaying sweet red gamay fruit, finesse and body drawn from its pink granite soils. This family-run domaine is now in its 5th generation. Cathy & Cedric aim to strike a balance between the old and the new, with wines that respect the traditions of their ancestors but have one foot firmly in the present.
